The scammers claiming to be from reputed companies send fake job offers via email or SMS.
Fake online portals are created to trick and exploit users. To avoid falling victim to these, lookout for warning signs like poor design, incorrect spelling, or unusual web addresses.
Phishing scams aim to steal users' credentials or sensitive data, such as credit card number, bank account information etc.
In case of Investment Scams, scammers offer high returns with little or no risk. They also show urgency in making investment in these schemes.
Stay updated and safeguard yourself.
Here’s a comprehensive overview of what individuals and organizations can adopt to strengthen their digital defences:
1. Use Strong and Unique Passwords
Create passwords that are at least 12 characters long, combining upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters.
Avoid using the same password across multiple accounts.
2. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Add an extra layer of security by requiring two or more methods of verification beyond just a password.
MFA can include SMS codes, email confirmations, authenticator apps, or biometric verification.
3. Keep Software and Devices Updated
Regularly update operating systems, applications, and firmware to patch vulnerabilities.
Enable automatic updates whenever possible to minimize security gaps.
4. Be Aware of Phishing Attacks
Check email addresses and URLs carefully before clicking on links or downloading attachments.
Do not share sensitive information such as passwords or financial details over email unless verified.
5. Secure Networks and Devices
Avoid public Wi-Fi for accessing confidential data unless connected through a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Lock your devices with passwords, PINs, or biometrics.
6. Educate Yourself and Others
Stay informed about the latest cyber threats and scams.
Attend security awareness training and share best practices with family, friends, and colleagues.
