Mobile Banking Safety Tips

  1. Don’t share account credentials like Account number, ATM card numbers, Expiry date, CVV or PIN, Mobile Banking OTP, Password and MPIN with anybody else. Any bank officials/ Government officials will never ask such details.
  2. Never store your account information, such as the account number, debit and credit card PINs, mobile application passwords or MPIN on your mobile handset.
  3. Avoid using unsecured, unknown Wi-Fi networks. There may be rogue Wi-Fi access points at public places used for distributing malicious applications.
  4. Set up a Pin/password/finger print/Face ID to access the handset menu on your mobile phone.
  5. Change your Mobile Application Password and MPIN regularly.
  6. Register/ update your mobile number and e-mail ID for alerts to keep track of your banking transactions.
  7. Don’t click on malicious links: Always navigate to a web site directly, i.e., type the link into your browser, or enter your bank’s web address into your phone and bookmark it. A secure web sites URL should begin with “https” and not “http”. Another sign to look for is the “Lock” icon displayed in the browser window.
  8. If you have to share your mobile with anyone else or send it for repair/maintenance: Clear the browsing history, Clear cache and temporary files stored in the memory as they may contain your account numbers and other sensitive information.
  9. Do not part with confidential information received from your bank on your mobile.
  10. Keep your mobile's operating system and applications, including the browser, updated with the latest security patches and upgrades.
  11. Password-protect your mobile device to protect against unauthorised access. Set up a Pin/password that is difficult to crack.
  12. If possible, maximize the security features by enabling encryption, remote wipe and location tracking on device.
  13. Never leave your mobile phone unattended.
  14. Be aware of shoulder surfers. Be extra careful while typing confidential information such as your account details and password on your mobile in public places.
  15. Turn off wireless device services such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS when they are not being used. The Bluetooth can be set up in invisible mode
  16. Never allow unknown devices to connect through Bluetooth and Hotspot.
  17. Do not use "Jail Broken" or "Rooted" devices for mobile banking. Jail breaking or rooting a device (the process of breaking into the phone's built-in operating system to control it outside the vendor's original intention) exposes the device to additional malware and gains administrative or privileged access of OS.
  18. Do not download and install applications from untrusted sources. Install apps downloaded from reputed application market.
  19. Always remember in settings, do not enable installation of apps from “untrusted sources”.
  20. Always verify app permissions and grant only those permissions which have relevant context for the app’s purpose.
  21. Never disclose personal information or online banking credentials via e-mail or text message as these can be used for identity theft
  22. Install an effective mobile anti-malware/anti-virus software on your smartphone and keep it updated

  24. Use e-Lock and e-Limit feature to Secure your accounts
  25. Be sure to “Log out” once you have completed your mobile banking session.
  26. Review your account statements regularly to check for any unauthorized transactions.
